Welcome to the 160th Monroe County FairWouldn't it be great to look back in time and visit our first fair 160 years ago? I'm sure we wouldn't recognize anything. The first fairs were held in downtown Woodsfield. The current location came into existence shortly after the turn of the last century.
The ticket booth, sitting at the front gate entrance, is the only building left from the old fairgrounds. It has been restored by volunteers.
Just imagine. There were no tractor displays, no food trailers, no rides for the children,no electricity, no 4-H and not even any cars. Those fairs surely would have been different.
I believe some things have never changed-the laughter of children and the fellowship of neighbors and old friends; and, of course, the discussion of 'Is that really the best exhibit?"
We hope you enjoy your visit to the fair this year. Thanks to all who helped in any way to make the 2010 Monroe County Fair a success.
